What is agonal ecg rhythm?

Agonal rhythm is a specific type of ECG rhythm that indicates that the heart is not functioning properly. This rhythm occurs in the event of sudden cardiac arrest, when the heart stops beating suddenly and the blood flow to the brain and other organs is interrupted. The resulting ECG pattern is characterized by slow, wide QRS complexes with a long ST segment and flattened or inverted T waves. This may be followed by frequent ventricular ectopic beats or ventricular fibrillation. Agonal rhythm is a grave sign of cardiac arrest and requires immediate medical intervention such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillation to restore normal heart function.
